This class caters to the individual with a desire to learn the art and technique of wheel thrown pottery. The class is designed for the beginner as well as those that have been challenged by the potter’s wheel.This class will focus on mastering the basics of centering, pulling and shaping. No previous pottery experience is needed. The student will learn how to create bowls, vases, and other functional stoneware pottery pieces. Students need to purchase basic pottery tools prior to the first class. Tools are available for sale at the VAC front desk.
Constructing forms with the use of slab roller and extrudes. High and low fire glazed used. Introduction to Basic Wheel Throwing.
This class will be using 2-part apoxie clay. It is non-toxic, waterproof and can be drilled, sanded and painted. You will learn how to sculpt over wire frame, on wood or canvas. You will also learn how to repair your treasures. Additional materials fee is $32.
This class is designed for experienced potters who have already mastered the basics of centering, pulling and shaping. Students should have the ability to center up to 3 lbs. of clay and pull a 6” cylinder as well as be able to trim their own work and prepare it for firing. This class will cover the throwing of larger pots, bottles, handles, covered jars and casseroles, out-of-the-round pots and other projects of the potter’s choice. Advanced glaze techniques will also be covered.

Explore different projects and techniques through instruction by teachers experienced with elementary age children. Cost is $50 per student and includes all supplies.
